Becoming

Wide hips, small breasts, little nose.

He has a sad, shoehorned smile, although he laughs out loud from time to time.

- Maura, are you there?

It is a small square, a circular stone square with a Maltese cross. To get there, you have to go down nine stone steps, which are grey and cracked like the skies in the north. An atypical construction, since you normally go up there when you want to pray.

Maura has escaped by car to some remote corner of her known world.

For some time now she has been feeling strange and looking for situations that are similar to hers. Unprepared and impulsively, she finds a random place on the map.

And there it is, with the hermitage and its ornamental fountain. "Is holy water drinkable?" he asks.

She is leaning against the main wall, sitting on the ground next to the half-open gate. The shadow covers her feet, hiding her from the blinding sun.

"I'm going to need my glasses later," he scolds himself. "If you haven't remembered, you don't need them," he immediately replies.

They want to teach her not to be so negative and she learns something.

To program and make your thoughts positive.

- Maura?

She wakes up from a deep meditation through silence. She adjusts her cell phone.

- Yes... I am.

- What are you up to… Maura?

The bubbling of the water is lost among the voices in the street. One is riding a bicycle, a couple is walking a Labrador that begs for freedom, and another... is just walking.

The town is full of faces that Maura will only see once at most. A glance lasts a second and then disappears into memory, like every drop that falls and mixes in the fountain. A single drop is inconsequential, but thanks to it the pond is full.

A child with something in his hands runs past. He trips. One of his sandals slips off. He sits down on the sidewalk and puts it back on, running again. Small details often go unnoticed, although we pay more attention to them when the environment is, as now, yet to be discovered.

Maura breathes.

- I'm looking for…

- I am looking for a future that inspires me. For this, my heart is my ears. Tell me about yourself first.
